COOPERATIVE WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM - "Co-op"

What is Co-op?

The Co-op Program is a work-based learning program for juniors and seniors age 16 and above, consisting of 150 to 600 hours of paid, school-supervised work experience.  Co-op students are required to be enrolled in related in-school courses from the Business, Art, or Technology Departments.  For example, if you are in an art course and work at a deli, there is no correlation between the job and the class, so this class would not count toward the Co-op requirement. If you are in a business course, this would count because you would learn business concepts while working in a business. Another example would be if you were in an art course and worked at the paint counter of Home Depot, this would count because you paint and study color in art courses.  (See Mrs. Perry-Eising about what courses count--not your guidance counselor.)  Co-op students may earn a 1/2 to 2 units of credit towards a CTE sequence, depending upon the specific sequence.  You must work 150 hours during the school year for a 1/2 credit, 300 hours for one credit, and seniors can work 600 hours for a maximum of two credits.  Students in this program earn a pass/fail course grade.
